Commonwealth Shared Scholarships

Commonwealth Shared Scholarships are for candidates from least developed and lower middle income Commonwealth countries, for full-time Master’s study on selected courses, jointly supported by UK universities.
Funded by the UK Department for International Development (DFID), Commonwealth Shared Scholarships enable talented and motivated individuals to gain the knowledge and skills required for sustainable development, and are aimed at those who could not otherwise afford to study in the UK. These scholarships are offered under six themes:

  1. Science and technology for development
  2. Strengthening health systems and capacity
  3. Promoting global prosperity
  4. Strengthening global peace, security and governance
  5. Strengthening resilience and response to crises
  6. Access, inclusion and opportunity
Eligibility
To apply for these scholarships, you must:
  • Be a citizen of or have been granted refugee status by an eligible Commonwealth country, or be a British Protected Person
  • Be permanently resident in an eligible Commonwealth country
  • Be available to start your academic studies in the UK by the start of the UK academic year in September/October 2018
  • By October 2018, hold a first degree of at least upper second class (2:1) standard, or a second class degree and a relevant postgraduate qualification (usually a Master’s degree)
  • Not have studied or worked for one (academic) year or more in a high income country
  • Be unable to afford to study in the UK without this scholarship

Selection process
Each participating UK university will conduct its own recruitment process to select a specified number of candidates to be awarded Commonwealth Shared Scholarships. Universities must put forward their selected candidates to the CSC by 17 May 2018. The CSC will then confirm that these candidates meet the eligibility criteria for this scheme. Universities will inform candidates of their results by July 2018.

Selection criteria include:
  • Academic merit of the candidate
  • Potential impact of the work on the development of the candidate’s home country.
How to apply
You should apply to study one of the taught Master’s courses offered in the Commonwealth Shared Scholarship scheme. These scholarships do not cover undergraduate courses, PhD study, or any pre-sessional English language teaching, and are usually tenable for one year only. View a full list of eligible courses
All applications must be made through your chosen university. You must check with your chosen university for their specific advice, admission requirements, and rules for applying. Some universities may require you to complete their own admissions application form as well, which may have a separate closing date. You can apply for more than one course and/or to more than one university, but you may only accept one offer of a Shared Scholarship.
All applications must be submitted by 23.59 (BST) on 17 April 2018 at the latest. Each university has its own closing date for applications, and most are before this date. Any applications submitted after a university closing date will not be considered; please ensure you apply via the EAS before your university closing date. ReadySetWork (RSW) Faculty Training Program for Nigerian Final Year Students 2018

Vision

Every student who graduates from a tertiary institution located in Lagos State will possess the knowledge, skills and mind-set required to be self-employed or become a value adding employee.

Participants:

The programme will be opened to 5,000 final year students from participatory institutions using the face-to-face method of learning and 20,000 penultimate year students from participatory institutions utilizing the on-line method of learning.

Programme Duration:

The programme runs for thirteen (13) weeks of intensive training (Saturday only) administered during the Second Semester of the school year.

Internships & Seed Funding:

At the end of the 13 weeks, outstanding students that have met the program requirements will have the opportunity to earn internship placements at various top organizations in the State. Students interested in being entrepreneurs will have the opportunity to pitch their business ideas in and their endeavour to bid for seed funding.

ORID TDR International Postgraduate Scholarship Scheme to study in Ghana 2018-2019

The Office of Research, Innovation, and Development (ORID) is inviting applications for TDR International Postgraduate Scholarship Scheme for the 2018/2019 academic year, funded under the WHO TDR International Postgraduate Scholarship Scheme.
The purpose of the project is to enhance University of Ghana’s capacity and post-graduate training in the Humanities.

The University of Ghana, the premier university and the largest university in Ghana was founded as the University College of the Gold Coast by Ordinance on August 11, 1948, for the purpose of providing and promoting university education, learning and research.

Scholarship Description: 

  • Application Deadline: March 30, 2018
  • Course Level: Scholarships are available to pursue Postgraduate programme.
  • Study Subject: Scholarships are awarded to pursue One-year Masters studies in Public Health. Ten (10) Master’s scholarships will be offered under the programme for the 2018/2019 academic year in the following areas:

    • MSc Applied Health and Social Sciences
Scholarship Award: The scholarship is tenable at the University of Ghana, School of Public Health and covers:

Makers, creators, social activists, and artists are thriving around the globe, and this mentorship program is tailored to help bridge the gap between female creatives uncomfortable with the stage their art and skills are currently at and those who have grown tremendously. The program is a One-on- One virtual mentorship guidance that will hold for 2 months causing accelerated growth in the selected candidates. During the program, chosen mentees get assigned to a Mentor, who will help shape their work for 2 months. The InterswitchSPAK National Science Competition for Nigerian Secondary Schools 2018

About InterswitchSPAK



INTRODUCTION
InterswitchSPAK is an annual search across high schools (public and private) in Nigeria for only SS 2 (year 11) students between the ages of 14-17 years.It is introduced to chart the ideal career path and drive the student towards full optimization of their potentials and fulfilment of their dreams (either as an inventor or entrepreneur) with a key message of revving up the interest of students; parents, teachers and other key stakeholders towards STEM education and its application in Africa.
SPAK OBJECTIVES
  1. To arouse and sustain keen interest in the study of STEM in high schools across Africa.
  2. To raise the standard of STEM education and reward excellence with educational grants through an unbiased competition that would promote sound education in Africa.
  3. To create a vehicle that is genuinely interested in the growth, development and well-being of Africa students and teachers through various interventions including scholarship schemes for outstanding STEM students.

HOW TO PARTICIPATE:
  1. This competition is open to students in SSS2 (year 11) between 14 – 17 years; attending full time Secondary Education in both Public and Private Schools in Nigeria.
  2. Participation in this competition is FREE.
  3. Registration to participate is strictly online via www.interswitchspak.com
  4. Each School is required to present their BEST six (6) students in Science (SS2 students), irrespective of religion, tribe or state of origin, to enhance their chances of qualifying for the second round of the competition.
  5. Mixed-schools are required to have at least two female students-amongst the six(6)  that would represent them.
  6. There are many examination centers across Nigeria.

There are two main levels of the competition.

In this stage, all the online registered students’ (i.e. the best SIX (6) from each registered school) will write a National qualifying examination conducted by NECO at designated centers across Nigeria including FCT, Abuja.
Each school is to prepare their representatives for the qualifying exams in four subjects- Mathematics, Physics; Chemistry & Biology based on the current year 11 WAEC/NECO syllabuses.

SECOND ROUND: TV QUIZ COMPETITION
The best 81 students (with the highest scores) out of those who wrote the qualifying examination will be invited to participate at this stage of the competition. This will be recorded and transmitted on Television across Nigeria and Africa.
The overall best three students per State will be recognised.


RULES AND REGULATIONS:

  1. The SPAK National exam will hold on Saturday April 21st, 2018 across Nigeria, please check the list of centers on www.interswitchspak.com.
  2. Students must come to their designated examination centres by 10am for accreditation with their Registration slip duly signed and stamped by their school principal.
  3. Latecomers will not be allowed to write the examination.
  4. Students are to come along with only HB pencil, eraser, ruler and statistical table, NO CALCULATORS WILL BE ALLOWED.
  5. Students must conduct themselves in an orderly manner
  6. Any act of misconduct will lead to disqualification of the student.
  7. All students MUST come to the exam venue in their School Uniform.
  8. Please refer to examination centre list o check for the centre nearest to you.
  9. The competition is open to SS2 (year 11) students ONLY.
  10. Each school is to prepare their representatives for the qualifying exams in Physics, Chemistry, Biology & Mathematics based on the current SS2 WAEC/NECO syllabuses.
  11. The decision of the organizers/ NECO is final and we shall not enter into any correspondence with anyone regarding the conduct of this examination.

  1. Students are advised to check their results via the online platform that will be made available to them from May 21st 2018.
  2. We strongly recommend that students sit for the examination at centres nearest to them·
